The Journey Air Elite Max is the premium choice in the Journey Air Series for people who want ultra-lightweight portability without giving up comfort, room, range or weight capacity. Its carbon fiber frame weighs just 24.25 lbs. without the batteries and cushions, yet the chair supports up to 330 lbs. With more room between the armrests, a taller supportive backrest and memory-foam cushioning, the Max is designed for people who expect to spend more time in their chair—and want to be comfortable doing it.
The Max is especially appealing for travel and longer days away from home. Two 12Ah lithium batteries automatically switch from one to the other to provide up to 19.8 miles of range, nearly twice the range of the Air Elite. There's no need to stop and manually change batteries when the first one runs low. Whether you're spending the day sightseeing, visiting a museum, exploring a resort, shopping or simply enjoying a long outing with family, that additional range provides greater freedom without constantly thinking about the battery.
Everyday operation is simple, but the Max adds a more advanced LED joystick controller that displays speed, mileage and battery level right where you can see them. It also provides multiple speed settings, voice notifications and safety alerts, volume control, a horn and USB charging. There's even a flashlight built in to the underneath part of the armrest. The controller can be mounted on either the right or left side, and dual quiet 150W Linix motors provide smooth powered mobility at speeds up to 3.7 mph.
Comfort is one of the biggest reasons we like the Max. It provides 19.75" of space between the armrests, a taller backrest and memory-foam cushioning. Comfort shouldn't be determined by whether you technically fit. For a larger person, someone approaching the limits of a smaller chair, or simply someone who prefers more personal space, the Max provides a much more accommodating option while maintaining an exceptionally lightweight design.
The Air Elite Max also folds without tools or disassembly for transportation in most car trunks, RV storage compartments and airline cargo holds. A protective battery carry case is included for travel, along with a cup holder and backrest storage pouch. The chair is FAA-compliant for air travel, although we always recommend confirming current battery and mobility-device requirements with your individual airline before flying.
Like the other Journey Air models, the Max is designed for controlled everyday mobility rather than speed or rugged terrain. Its 3.7 mph top speed is appropriate for homes, airports, shops, sidewalks and other everyday environments. What sets the Max apart is its combination of longer range, greater comfort, higher capacity and remarkably low weight.
For someone planning more than an occasional doctor's appointment or trip to the grocery store—or for a larger rider who simply deserves a chair that provides enough room to be comfortable—the Air Elite Max would be our first choice in the Journey Air Series.
